Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has officially launched the new Honda Activa 5G with a host of updates and competes head on with the TVS Jupiter, the second highest selling scooter in the country. But, of the two, which is the better scooter? The comparison below will help you answer that question.

Price – Honda Activa 5G is priced at INR 52,460 for the STD variant and at INR 54,325 for the DLX variant. Prices of the TVS Jupiter start at INR 49,966 and go up to INR 56,056 for the Classic Edition.

Engine – Honda Activa 5G is powered by a 109cc, single cylinder HET engine offering 8 PS power at 7,500 rpm and 9 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm. TVS Jupiter also gets a 109cc, single cylinder engine producing 8 PS power at 7,500 rpm and 8 Nm torque at 5,500 rpm. Fuel efficiency on the Activa 5G stands at 60 kmpl as against 62 kmpl offered by the engine of TVS Jupiter.

Dimensions – The Honda Activa 5G dimensions remain unchanged. It measures 1,761mm in length, 710mm in width and 1,149mm in height. It gets a wheelbase of 1,238mm, ground clearance of 153mm and seat height of 765mm. TVS Jupiter on the other hand measures 1,834mm in length, 650mm in width and 1,115mm in height. It has ground clearance of 150mm and saddle height of 765mm.

Design – Both the Activa 5G and the TVS Jupiter sport a conservative design language. The Activa 5G gets similar body work as seen on its earlier counterpart and two new color schemes of Yellow and Red. Extensive use of chrome is seen on its front apron with specific badging adding to its premium appeal. The Activa 5G is seen with a full LED headlamp which is a first in segment feature in the 110cc scooter segment. It also sports a digital analog instrument console with both service due indication lights and Eco Mode lights.

TVS Jupiter receives a halogen headlamp, turn indicators on its front apron and LED tail lamp. It gets only an analog instrument cluster without any digital display and the instrument console clocks speed, odometer and fuel gauge with Eco Mode and Power Mode indications. The Activa 5G sports steel wheels with drum brakes and Combi Brake System as against TVS Jupiter which sits on alloy wheels with optional brake system. The fuel tank of the Activa 5G is a larger 5.30 liter unit as against the 5 liter fuel tank capacity seen on the TVS Jupiter.

2018 Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 rear disc brake arrives at dealer before launch – First Look Video

Not long after launching the Pulsar NS 160, Bajaj is all ready to launch a new variant equipped with rear disc brake. The added feature will help the newest member of the Pulsar family to fend off its currently better equipped rivals like Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ, Honda CB Hornet 160R.

The existence of rear disc brake variant has been confirmed by the video below which was shot by automotive vlogger Mr Shivansh Batham. As can be seen, save for the rear disc, the motorcycle is identical to the base Pulsar NS 160.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 derives its design entirely from the bigger NS 200 and targets an audience who are looking for a sporty commuter at an affordable price. That explains the lack of rear disc brake and meaty rear tyre. The base variant which is currently on sale carries a price tag of Rs 80,640 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Expect the rear disc variant to be pricier by around 3,000. The Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 fills the void created by the Pulsar AS 150.

The new Bajaj adopts a dual-tone color theme to differentiate itself from its bigger sibling. The 160 cc oil-cooled motor is tuned to produce 15.5 HP and 14.6 Nm of torque. While the 200 cc variant employs a 6-speed gearbox, the 160 cc model makes do with a 5-speed unit. Watch the first look video below.

With the new NS 160, Bajaj is hoping to achieve a significant increment to an already impressive sales volume of the Pulsar family. The two wheeler maker is in the process of renewing the Pulsar lineup and so, we can see more models hitting the market in foreseeable future. The NS 160 rear disc variant is expected to be launched during festive season.

Bajaj recently announced fresh investment of INR 300 crores in R&D to develop new products of which most of them will belong to the Pulsar and Dominor series.
